I know you. I’ve been on a first date with you. Only a first date.

Look, you’re not unattractive.

You show up on time, clean-shaven, wearing your new khakis. You’re polite, you hold the door, you tell me I look nice. You talk about your family, your work, your hobbies. You ask about mine.

It’s all fine and good. You seem like a great guy.

The only problem is that I’m bored out of my fucking mind.

I’m saying this not to be rude or insensitive. Just honest. I know, deep down, that you (probably) aren’t boring. But your “about me” monolgue reads a little too much like an interview.

You come off a little too keen — not that showing interest is a bad thing — but so much eagerness on a first date is a turn-off.

The whole thing just feels too forced. Like you’re trying too hard to be the perfect gentleman.

Enough.

At this point, you’re probably annoyed with me. Maybe a little confused. You might be wondering, “Exactly how the fuck am I supposed to act on a first date?”
