What We Can All Learn from a Private Chef in the Hamptons
The cheat code to landing your dream job
Rob Li is a 27-year-old private chef to a billionaire in the Hamptons. Rob, or @broccoliraab as he is known on social media, has amassed over a million followers by shooting BTS footage of life as a private chef. His videos are aesthetic, yet unpretentious, and give his audience what their curiosity craves — a tiny glimpse into high society.
But what’s more interesting than Li’s culinary creations is his path to becoming one of the internet’s most popular private chefs.
Li is not a classically trained chef. In fact, he has no culinary training. Period. He’s never even worked in a restaurant, let alone in fine dining. The chef admits he learned to cook through YouTube videos, drawing inspiration from chefs like Gordon Ramsey.
Naturally, ‘self-trained on YouTube’ didn’t exactly lend itself to landing high-paying celebrity clients… or any paying clients, for that matter.
But Li was undeterred. When he struggled to find work with his lacklustre resume, he found a creative way to bridge the gap between his experience and career goals.
